Yes, that's right. It is that awkward time of year. I, like many women, find myself making the trek to the department store to make that dreadful purchase... a new bikini.
I have avoided this ritual like the plague for the past 4 summers. Now that I am out of college and working full time, I have very little use for bathing suits and summer clothes in general. However our honeymoon lurks right around the corner! Things have been so busy for the last two months I haven't really had time to think about it. But now, it is two weeks away, and I have to admit I am incredibly excited.
But I have NO summer clothes! Seriously! I think I own 2 pair of shorts, and I am not sure they both fit. I own one bathing suit, and it has a broken strap. (Not to mention that what used to be cute and a little skimpy at 24 no longer is cute nor comfortable at age 28!)
So I made the trek to Academy this evening. Probably not everyone's first choice for fashion, but their clothes are comfortable, and more importantly, their swimsuits stay in place. None of this it fits until you get in the water, then it almost falls off. I found what I went in for - a long lightweight pair of pants to wear in the rainforest in Belize, and a swimsuit with two tops. One top is a true bikini for flaunting it (not sure Mando has ever seen me in a bikini!), and a more conservative tankini top for when I feel modest, or for activities that require a little more, shall we say, "support".
My next mission: a UV protected cover up shirt, a rain slick, and several cheap tank tops. This will have to wait for the weekend, due to payday.
I have to say, I'm proud of myself. I so rarely buy clothes for myself, its nice to splurge. YAY!!!! Bring on the Belize!
