The Countdown is on!

I saw Mr. Doctor Man yesterday. After no progress last week, I'm now 2 cm and 80% effaced. Squeaky has dropped even more, if that's even possible, causing me to understand why I've heard nightmare stories about internal exams. Suffice to say, it hurt like hell. But the doctor did say that he thought Squeaks would be here within a week.

Now, I am not naive enough to believe that this is a guarantee, but I must say I'm hopeful. I've had 4-5 hours of regular contractions the last two evenings, last night's being 10-15 minutes apart. They started up again this morning about 4 am, but have been too inconsistent to bother to time.

The whole idea of impending labor is just bizarre at this point. It's like preparing to run a marathon, but you don't know when it starts. So you're standing at the starting line, waiting for the gun and wondering if it's better to run in place to warm up or to chill in the grandstands. I've chosen the latter (sort of). I'm keeping my daily routine, which means going to work etc. But I'm trying to take it easy as well. I'm currently exhausted, but I figure this beats sitting on the couch timing inconsistent contractions for God knows how long.

I'm just ready to meet him. I'm ready to hold him and kiss his head and count his toes. If anyone has an eviction notice they could serve, this would be the time.

Anyhoo, if you've made it this far, thanks for listening to my ramblings.

I love your analogy with the marathon. It is very much like that! I hope Squeaky is here before you know it.
