Mommy Rave: Sunday Afternoons Baby Play Hat

First off, I should say that when I post a Mommy Rave, it truly is a product that I love. No one sent it to me or asked me to review it and I don't receive any kind of compensation. It's just a product that I happened upon that I liked and thought I would share with other mommies. End disclaimer.

On Labor Day, while perusing REI in Austin on a break from our trek from Dallas back home, I happened onto these hats made by Sunday Afternoons. They were on summer clearance, marked down from $19.99 to $9.99. I'm always on the look out for a good hat for the boys, so I picked up one in the 0-6 month size and one in the 6-24 month size.

We tried them out last week at the park and I love them, as did the boys. They are made of lightweight material so even my sweaty-headed 2 year old didn't get hot in it. The wide brim shades their whole face, but is stiff enough to stay out of their face and not bug them. The flap in the back keeps the sun off their neck. The chin strap is made of the same lightweight material and is equipped with a quick-release clip, so if they happen to catch it on something they aren't going to strangle themselves.

These hats seem to run big. Both Gabe and Isaac are on the higher end of the percentile when it comes to head size, but these have elastic in the back that adjust to fit a wide variety of head sizes and do it comfortably. In the store, it was actually Gabe that grabbed the hat off the rack and put it on his head. He grabbed the 0-6 month hat and while it sat shallowly on his head, the elastic still stretched to fit him. I have confidence the 6-24 month hat will fit him for at least another year and that the 0-6 will fit Isaac through at least 12 months, maybe longer.

Another plus - these hats don't have any wires or firm parts in them so they are easy to stuff in a diaper bag if you're on the go. I liked them so much I decided to keep them in the seat pocket of my car, that way they'll always be handy when we're out and about.

Finally, here is a picture of Isaac in his hat. Happy boy!
